Intellectual Property

Intellectual refers to mind and related imagination, and property refers to one's asset or possession. Therefore, Intellectual property refers to any piece of work created through the application of one's mind and over which the creator has right to use in any form. Common examples are work of art ( painting, sculpture ), music, design, trademark and industrial design.

We often make use of other person's work in our day-to-day life without giving credit to him/her. We actually do not realise it. The intention is not bad. For example we download music, text material, design  from internet for our work. We, however, should see to it that it is not used by us for commercial purpose ( as we do not have permission from the creator ) and exact text and design (at least) should not be used by us without the permission of the creator. At best we should take inspiration from such work. For music files and videos, however, we should buy from paid sites and should not go for cheap copy as it amounts to violation of the intellectual property of the creator.

  1. Do you think it is enough to not use other's people's stuff for commercial purpose? What if the creator makes money selling the stuff you are taking for free? Are you taking away their income?

    2. Yes, it's hard to deal with that the creator decides to make money selling the stuff AFTER I used it without contact to the creator.
